No foolin’, The Jester Race is one of the Nineties’ most impressive melodeath records. Released in 1996, In Flames’ sophomore LP was their first to feature former Dark Tranquility vocalist Anders Fridén on the mic, as well as drummerBjörn Gelotte — who would later go on to become the Swedish band’s guitarist. The Jester Race moves from jubilantly-screamed, semi-acoustic metal waltzes (“Moonshield”) towards hummably atom-bombed heat-seekers (“Dead Eternity”) and anthemic stomps. This 30th anniversary pressing arrives on clear vinyl, and likewise comes packaged with a see-through repress of the band’s Black-Ash Inheritance EP from 1997.
